
Guaro/Aguardiente is known as Schnapps in English. It is a liquor made in Latin America where its product is a process of distilling sugar cane juices that range with an alcohol content of 30%-60%.
pura vida is a Costa Rican spirit made of 100% natural ingredients from sugar cane. Our name translates from the Costa Rican expression to “pure life” where our mission is to bring life, happiness, and community with every drop of this spirit. A portion of each bottle purchase goes directly towards the conservation of natural habitats in Costa Rica to keep our biodiversity thriving.
The target audience for this project is focused on Costa Rican people as it is my home country with the objective to create a spirit that can be sold in the airport as a special gift to someone.
The illustration below is drawn to be stamped or embossed onto the special packaging of the bottle. Represented with Costa Rican symbols, the illustration creates a window or vision that expresses the nature of Costa Rica. Composed of the Volcan Irazu, el Yigüirro (national bird), morpho butterfly, and coffee trees.
The design of the bottle is selected as usual guaro/vodka/aguardiente spirits are packaged in tall bottles. Following the CACIQUE design (Costa Rican national guaro) this bottle has sharp shoulders compared to curved shoulders.
The front label is a crystalization of the gradient made from the color palette. The sharp feeling from the crystals when you drink this spirit is evoked through the shapes of the colored shards. Additionally, the front label has an inner label to be seen inside the bottle. Mimicking a vinyl or a glass-making technique to integrate colors inside the bottle.
The back label has the same effect as the front label by having an inner design. However, this is treated more like a sticker label rather than integrated inside the bottle. The design is more simple to lose the emphasis on it and focus on the front label.
A colorful palette is chosen to represent Costa Rica as a country full of colors. The sharp feeling that this spirit gives you is evoked through the shapes of the colored shards.
The special packaging is a special edition only sold at the airport or during the anniversary of the company and the country’s independence day. The objective is to sell this spirits project as a group drinking bottle. Thus the matchbox design enables the bottle to carry 6 shot glasses to share with friends and family.
